The Global Initiative to Speed the Delivery of Therapies for FSHD

1 in 10,000: Why This Video Matters

Post: 1 in 10,000: Why This Video Matters

We celebrate a powerful step forward in raising awareness for Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD). Under the motto “1 in 10,000”, the FSHD Spain has launched a compelling public awareness campaign—a video directed by the prestigious filmmaker Chus Gutiérrez.

This spot is more than a production; it’s a voice for those living with FSHD, a rare, neurodegenerative, genetic disease that causes progressive weakness of skeletal muscles. Its low prevalence often means invisibility—but this campaign changes that. By sharing her courageous testimony on national news and lending her talent to this project, Chus has helped shine a light on a condition that affects lives profoundly yet remains largely unknown.

The video was officially presented at a press conference attended by major newspapers and communication offices. Its message is clear: FSHD may take our muscles, but it will never take our strength. Together, we are stronger. We invite you to:

  • Watch the video
  • Share it widely
  • Join us in making FSHD visible

Every view and share brings us closer to awareness, research, and hope for a cure.
Thank you to everyone involved for reminding the world that strength goes far beyond muscles.
